Welcome...
Experience the peace and tranquility of this charming
character cottage. On the edge of town and country and surrounded by
West Coast gardens and trees, you may be privileged to see the herons
that nest in their rookery high up in the Douglas firs overlooking the
garden. Deer venture out from the forest. Eagles soar overhead,
migratory shorebirds are many and varied. Sea lions can be heard on
clear nights, especially in March.
A Garden Cottage Retreat is only minutes from beaches, forests, parks,
marinas, galleries, shopping. Meals are self-catered in a fully equipped
kitchen. A basket of treats from local farms awaits your first
breakfast, which you can enjoy indoors, looking out on the garden, or on
the deck or patio.

Directions
Macdonald Wood Park
(www.mwps.ca) , walk out the front gate and turn right.
The park is at the end of the block. There are walking trails
throughout. The east-west trail connects with Mac Laing Nature Park, Filberg
Lodge and Park and Comox. (See map)
The beach, turn right at the gate,
walk to the end of Docliddle Road, and turn
left. The beach is at the end of the road, one block. If you turn right
and walk along the beach, you'll link up with walking trails into Comox.
Goose Spit protects Comox Harbour, and
is one of the finest sandy beaches in the area. Definitely the place for
kite surfing and beachcombing. Just turn left on Docliddle, right at
the orchard and left onto Young Street at the bottom. At the end of the
block, you'll find a staircase to the trail. This is a public
thoroughfare, not private property, so feel confident about walking
there.
The trail winds around an alpaca farm to the right. These are gentle,
shy animals which won't usually get too close. (Your dog of course is
well-behaved, and does not bark at alpacas nor chase hungry herons at
the beach.) The trail comes out on a road which leads right down to
Goose Spit, a distance of a block. At the first lookout, another huge
staircase can take you up to Yates Road, and more trails. It is possible
to return via the sometimes-quite-wet beach at lower tides. It is also
possible to walk the entire distance around Goose Spit at low tide, past
HMCS Quadra and Comox First Nations land. That takes another hour.
To get to downtown Comox, you can either walk
through the parks or go back up to the corner of Balmoral and Croteau
and turn left. Balmoral will take you right to the Comox Mall.
Come and enjoy the Comox Valley!
